How to motivate yourself?

How to motivate yourself?

Most of the time I find myself demotivated and hard to find stay optimistic. There are days when I don’t want to go to office. I feel depressed for no reason. I find the things unattractive which in normal routine I enjoy doing. I find it difficult to do the things of daily routine and want to get myself hidden in a place where no one could see me or find me. I am being completely honest with you here.

In this article you might not find optimistic solution. If we only did things when we are motivated to do so, we wouldn't really achieve anything as social members of the society. There are going to be days when you don't want to go to office. But you wake up anyways and you go to office because you have to pay the bills. Keeping these things in mind, I have designed few tips which will keep you in frame and would force you to complete your daily chores without any burden in the mind and your soul. Keep reading to find out more about it.

So, Tip #1 is to replace motivation with discipline, and in order to gain discipline, that comes with adopting consistent habits. Here I would quote an example from my own experience. Before I started lifting weights, I was an across-country runner; I was really skinny; looked completely different. And while I got to college, I was finally allowed the opportunity to train the way I wanted to: weight training, putting on muscle. And I told myself, I will go to the gym every single day for thirty days and even if I had no idea what I was doing, which I didn’t, I would just stick with it.

Every single day, thirty days no matter what. By the end of the thirty-day period, even though I still barely knew what I was doing, I had learned a lot, and most importantly, going to the gym became a consistent habit for me. In fact, the first time I took a break after those first thirty days, it felt extremely odd to me.

I just really wanted to get back to the gym because my body had become used to training. Now, apply this idea to other aspects of life also. Once you repeat something enough times, it turns into a habit.  And if the thing that you are doing is giving you some advantage, it becomes a good habit. The more you do something, the easier it gets, both from a psychological and a physiological perspective. So, as you continue to repeat the habit, that creates disciplines. A lot of people take discipline as motivation viewed in optimistic light.

If you do something in positive manner with optimistic approach and make it a habit by doing it repeatedly, the discipline becomes motivation. If you don’t take it as motivation, then at least others would think that you are motivated enough to do everything that you have to do.  For you, it can be doing what you do on a daily basis. So, that’s tip #1 guys, replace motivation with discipline. And discipline really comes from advantageous, consistent habits.

So, Tip #2 is to thoroughly involve yourself in the process. Don’t think too much about the end goal, just focus on what you’re doing in that current moment. One analogy I like to use is the phrase, “exploring something with child-like curiosity.” So, when you are a kid, and you are exploring something new for the first time, and you’re genuinely involved and curious, time ends up flying. It goes the phrase, “time’s flying when you are having fun.” So no matter what it may be, learning a new language, investing in your career, developing a new skill set, getting fit?

When you thoroughly invest yourself in the process, and you explore something with a child-like sense of curiosity, time ends up flying. Naturally, you end up becoming more involved in what you learn. And when people see you being involved and in a positive light, they will see that you are motivated or they will assume that you are motivated. When at the end of the day, it’s just you being genuinely, genuinely curious.

So, that’s tip #2 guys: invest yourself in the process and explore things with a child-like sense of curiosity. Because when people see you doing these things in a positive way, they are going to mistake that as motivation or you being motivated. At the end of the day, however, you are just really curious and you want to learn more.

So, Tip #3 is to surround yourself with the right people because it’s frequently said that you are the sum of your closest friends. When you’re surrounded with people who are consistently executing, and who are disciplined and working on what they are passionate about, that is going to spill over to you. We naturally see these things, and we are compelled to do more ourselves. However, if you are surrounding yourself with people who are always binge-watching Netflix, always on the couch, not compelled to do anything productive, or who are just genuinely lazy, then you are naturally going to pick up on some of those tendencies, and those characteristics will generally spill over onto you.

Of course, we all have those days when we want to watch Netflix and take it easy, but at the end of the day, it really comes down to that balance and making sure that you have that great group of friends around you that can keep you locked in. So one point that might be true is that maybe you are in an environment that doesn't allow you to surround yourself with positive minds and aspiring individuals. Maybe you come from an abusive household, maybe you come from a very small town and your friend group is not really beneficial to your growth.

Well, the good news is we have the internet, and you can always jump online; go on YouTube, like you are right now; look up motivational speeches, keynote speakers, podcasts - there’s a ton of inspirational, motivational, and uplifting content out there, and it’s amazing how you can just throw a pair of headphones and just tune into that. And when you’re in a toxic environment that is a very good option. Because naturally, you start to teach more from the mentors that you might aspire to be like. And you start developing those qualities because you’re listening to their material so often. All right, guys. Those are your top 3 tips, finding motivation and staying motivated.

So, Number 1 is to replace motivation with discipline, disciplines come from forming good habits; number 2 is to thoroughly invest yourself in the process and develop a child-like sense of curiosity, and number 3 is to surround yourself in the right environment.
